Catching the sailing bug

Living in Hawaii:

So this obsession with sailing was seeded when I lived in Hawaii. Being surrounded by water and the ability to interact with water daily led to taking it somewhat for granted. It was always there, you could always go swimming, surfing, bodysurfing. Sailing was possible if you had a friend with a boat. I did not, however there are always options. If there is a will there is a way.  Memories of watching the catamarans set out for sunset sailing from the rock wall at San Souci Beach Park or Ala Moana Beach Park. Other opportunities to enjoy a cruise were our work parties. Those cruises off of Waikiki Beach are memories are still fresh. Anchoring in the turquoise blue waters jumping off the boat and gallivanting care free. Great local food, drinks, friends, and post card sunsets. Life could not get much better.

Reconnecting with the ocean:

Life happens and took me away from paradise and to the mainland. On a vacation to Mexico with a friend we booked a catamaran trip out to a reef off of Riviera Maya. This trip took me back to the times in Hawaii. We played in the water, snorkeling, eating, drinking and enjoying a relaxing day on the water. As we headed back in the salt drying on my skin, the sun having giving me a warm glow and smile, Couldn’t help but miss my time near the water. Realized how much I really needed that connection, realizing that this was something missing in my life.

Bitten by the sailing bug:

Arriving home after this trip I felt invigorated. I needed to find a way to have that feeling of freedom, being on the water, the wind on my face and the need to explore. The common theme through these blogs is to get off the couch and get out there. Find a way to make it happen.

A little about me:

I am an average guy, will sit down next to you at the bar, drink a beer and strike up a conversation about whatever. I consider myself athletic, an adventurer and work hard to continue improving myself. You will not however see me on the cover of a magazine free climbing at El Capitan. These folks however inspire me and many others to get out there and do it.  Who doesn’t enjoy watching Outside TV and X Games. I am going to challenge myself to explore as many adventures as I can and sailing is one of these adventures. I also want to help inspire you to do the same. Let’s do this!

The goal is to find an adventure, research what it takes to accomplish it, make a plan and then execute that plan.
